Johnny Foreigner – “The Concrete Collar”

UK quartet Johnny Foreigner are just about ready to release their new LP FORWARDS! [out Sept. 4] but have one more taste with “The Concrete Collar.”

Composed with their hometown of Birmingham and its post-Troubles transformation in mind, this alt-indie offering is rich in both meaning and movement. Lead vocalist Alexei Berrow explains:

[The title is] taken from 1970s tabloid quote criticizing the brutalist Manzoni redevelopment of the city centre. This is a song about that redevelopment; another example of a completely untrained/qualified man being let loose by national government with a mad idea just to see what happens.
