Skylar Spence – I Can’t Be Your Superman

Who said disco was dead? Because Ryan DeRobertis a.k.a Skylar Spence f.k.a Saint Pepsi has been shepherding an inspired resurgence for the better part of three years now and is looking to make an even bigger splash with the release of his impending commercial debut Prom King [out September 18 via Carpark Records]. Having already released lead single “Can’t You See” and the follow-up “Affairs,” the Long Island music maker offers up “I Can’t Be Your Superman,” another nu-disco dazzler.

The track opens with an electric, thumping bassline before Spence’s matured voice makes way, opening up about trying to help but then being pushed away by a friend ‘living dangerously.’ It may not be akin to the breezy subject matter of personal fave “Fiona Coyne,” but when combined with the compelling pop-production strokes it makes for one euphonious rotation filler.

You can pre-order Prom King over on iTunes now and look for the disco revival coming to a city near you this fall [boo for no D.C. date]:
