For my money, Coloring Book is one of this generation’s greatest achievements in independent ingenuity and expression. Chance The Rapper was able to produce something so much more than music when he dropped the mixtape last spring. So I’m always going to notice when other innovative acts gamble on themselves in the name of musicmaking. Especially when that gamble is an ambitious take of a Coloring Book favorite.
In the twenty four hours since its release, Louis The Child’s flip of Lil Chano’s collaboration “All Night” has racked up thousands upon thousands of digital streams. That’s thanks to, in no small part, the Chicago duo’s re-imagining of the party cut as a tricked-out bounce fest. Near ominous bass and intricately layered synths paired with a flair for percussive progressions develop into an electronic groove that rivals the original.
A worthy counterpart if there ever was one, stream for yourself below. And if you can, check these guys out as they cross the country on their upcoming Last To Leave Tour; presale tickets available now.
