Los Angeles DJ VenessaMichaels is well known for her ongoing appreciation of all things nostalgic. So it should come as no surprise that her latest project is an ambitious callback to some of music’s more gratifying tracks.

Her new EP Now That’s What I Call 2090, a reference to the decades long series of pop compilations, should please audiophiles of all persuasions as she mixes and flips four classic cuts. Blu Cantrell’s revenge anthem “Hit Em Up Style (Oops!)” takes on a trap twist, “Get Busy” by Sean Paul gets the jersey club treatment, while Pretty Ricky’s bedroom jam “Grind With Me” is finessed with a bass-focused approach.
