Maroon 5 ft. SZA – What Lovers Do

The boys of Maroon 5 are continuing their recent string of high-profile collaborations with “What Lovers Do,” a funky pop piece featuring rising R&B star SZA. The new single follows the Kendrick Lamar and Future assisted tracks “Don’t Wanna Know” and “Cold” respectively, but is decidedly more upbeat and a whole lot more fun than the aforementioned two.

Their current cut lays the charm on heavy with funky bass licks and a chord progression that sounds maybe a little too similar to NEIKED and Dyo’s criminally underrated “Sexual,” but that formula pays off if you’re looking for an accessible late summer bounce. And the playful back and forth between Levine and SZA adds a layer of vocal courtship any good pop song strives for.
