Leave it to the late hip-hop head XXXTentacion to drop one of the year’s best rock tunes, but that’s just what the genre-defying rapper did with the Kanye West assisted collaboration “One Minute.” Off of the posthumously released Skins, the cut hits hard with reverb and verse alike.
Ye’s rap off the top walks a fine line between exaggerated machismo and common decency, he seemingly blames XXX’s ex-girlfriend at one point for her role in the domestic abuse XXX admitted to, before the much maligned soloist chimes in with an almost deafening, yet emotionally invested chorus and interlude nonetheless. All while electrifying licks and a thumping drum sample keep a raucous pace.
