At first blush it’s easy to compare Machester up-and-comers Larkins to an established act like The 1975. Not only do they share a similar synth-pop sound, they have a hometown in common, and their frontmen know how to rock some curls. But this quartet shows they are coming into their own with latest release “TV Dream.”
A hot take on how romantic ideals have devolved through the generations, the tune sets a joyful tone with its alluring synths and grandiose hooks but is underscored by sobering lyricism throughout. This juxtaposition of ideal and imperfect works in the bands favor, creating a powerful piece that is deep in both sound and substance.
