What do you get when you match a longtime session drummer with the little brother of a Lonely Island member? You get the musical progeny of Matthew Compton and Asa Taccone, Electric Guest.
And while the two have been making music together for nearly a decade now, this is their first appearance on the DH pages thanks to their latest, “Dollar.”
The first piece of fresh tunage in two years, the new tune serves as their Atlantic Records debut as well as a departure from fruitful alt-indie roots. Instead the pair have put an electronic focus forward, one that combines resonant rhythmic flows with day-dreamy vocals for a mix you can get lost in.
Ditching the sound they’ve been known for in favor of an electroni-pop groove may have seemed like a risk, but the duo have opened themselves up to all kinds of auspicious avenues with this one.
