Better known for her song-writing support of other artists, Tayla Parx steps into the spotlight with the release of her sophomore studio effort Coping Mechanisms. It’s a catalogue of breakup bops, a sort of sonic catharsis for the Texan act.

But the standout track has to be “System,” a tricky mix of pop, r&b, and dance from producers Dem Jointz. Starting with bass-heavy groove, the new tune picks the pace up with a second act flip of the tempo, all the while our stricken soloist delivers a steady stream of lyrical expurgation.
