Digital High’s Top 20 of 2021 [20 – 6]
20. “Serotonin” – girl in red

16. “Recap” – Kito, VanJess, & Channel Tres
15. “Not in the Mood” – Fickle Friends
14. “so good” – joan

8. “Last Time” – Becky Hill
7. “Questions” – Middle Kids
6. “Spinning” – No Rome ft. Charli XCX & The 1975

5. “You”Regard x Troye Sivan x Tate McRae
Sexy doesn’t begin to describe this saucy dance-collab. Silky smooth rhythms, scintillating vocals, and an aura of desire beguile the listener. It’s just a shame it checks in under four minutes.

4. “Sacrifice”Bebe Rexha
Another entry into the sultry conversation, Bebe Rexha’s dance-popper played up the passion in both its lyrical content and layered instrumentation. To quote the forever socialite Paris Hilton…that’s hot.

3. “Starstruck”Years & Years
There may not be a more charming bop this year than Olly Alexander’s first foray since going solo. An instantly engaging synthline, Panglossian lyrical play, and a relentless bounce are all packed nicely into the nearly three and a half minute piece. Listen and smile.

2. “hold on” – The Sanctuary
Number two is somewhat of a dubious pick. Or at least in my mind. A gritty, garage-house cut from an up-and-coming act wouldn’t usually move the needle much, but there’s something about this melody that just lingers…in the best way!

1. “New Love”Silk City ft. Ellie Goulding
And now for the moment you’ve been waiting for, I’m sure. I love electroni-pop and it clearly shows so it’s only fitting that the final spot goes to one of the genre’s best this year. Really though, what did you expect when superstar acts like Diplo, Mark Ronson, and Ellie Goulding collaborate together?
