Eighty Ninety, brothers Abner and Harper James, first released the surprisingly plucky “Three Thirty” way back when in 2016. Nearly eight years later the duo formally announce plans for a debut album, fittingly self-titled and releasing December 15th. To mark that major moment, they share the LP’s opener “Ruins.”
The textured alt-pop’r is a “reflection on the past” per the two-set, answering the “what ifs that still linger” through their brand of emotive and melodic storytelling. A raw energy courses throughout the lively listen, evidencing itself in the earnest vocals of singing-half Abner and escaping in the track’s last waning moments.
It’s been a journey to now for these two, but that was just the beginning.
