It’s a millennial meet up of sorts as Michelle Branch and New Radicals, two acts that saw their heydays in the early ’00s, connect for a contemporary cover of one of the former’s more formidable hits.
“The Game of Love,” appearing on the longtime soloist’s upcoming Everywhere and Back Again EP [out Nov. 6], was originally a Santana-tapped feature now reworked as a true back and forth between Branch and the song’s original writer+producer Gregg Alexander. And while the legendary riff runs of the original lose focus, the new versioning leans into a vocal focus first as modern maturity tells this tale.
If this magic is any preview of the collaborations to come we’re in for a real treat in this new era of Michelle Branch music.
