Mollie Coddled, self-described as a “glitter-coated bedroom-pop auteur,” is living up to her own lore as she releases the first bite of her untitled album arriving later this year.
“The Art Of Falling Apart,” a cheeky discourse on her own shortcomings, is a true treat from the start as spoken-word, diary-esque entries give way to a shimmery, daydream-like dissociation before glowing synths, chorus-soaked riffs, and lofty vocal harmonies make this alt-pop cut whole. The Yorkshire soloist shares:
For me, hitting rock-bottom is the only way to regain my lust for life; it’s the only time I start to feel better. [This song] isn’t for clean girls who go to the gym and get A’s on their school work, it’s for the people forgetting to eat and shower, bed-rotting until 4am and then going “why the f**k am I so tired” every day!
That context comes through loud and clear and only serves to make this listen that more laudable..
