CURBZ is Peder Naustdal, Håkon Høydal, Andreas Espelund, Olaf Gloppen, and Jakob Hagen and CURBZ is Norway’s new, trailblazing rock band getting the written love today as they release their debut track “Zhuggah.”
This hard-launch of the five-set shows off their commitment to the rock scene, sitting somewhere between modern and alt rock as heavy guitars and raw physical energy pair with a natural instinct for big hooks. Playful and cocky, its title twists the word “sugar” into something deliberately less innocent, driven by big riffs, a tightly locked rhythm section and a sharp melodic instinct that keeps the track as immediate as it is abrasive. The band explains: ”
For us, music is all about energy, and [this song] captures exactly what we’re about. It’s fast-paced but also precise, both lyrically and instrumentally. We’ve leaned into its attitude and pushed everything to the forefront rather than holding back. That’s really the whole point of the track.
And what a fuggin’ fine introduction it is.
