The year was 1996. As I’ve said before, a very good year.
Irish rockers The Cranberries would get in on the fun with “Salvation”, the expeditious alt-punk lead single off of their third studio album To The Faithful Departed. This modern rock chart-topper features a darker, edgier tone than previous releases but Dolores O’Riordan’s delicate voice jibes rather well, maintaining a sanguine familiarity throughout. And like any bona fide mainstay, the hook still plays over and over in your head long after you’ve tried putting the tune to bed. Press play but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
[Side note: This video features one scary ass clown, on the level of AHS: Freak Show’s Twisty]
