If you’ve ever felt the need to shake your ass to Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” but thought the psychedelic soulster didn’t quite lend itself to a good derrière displacement, you’re in luck. SoCal soloist Tyler Mann taps into his own West Coast rearing for a spirited debut release dropping today.
An ode to the alternative spirit of Westerners, the nicopop. produced cut grooves along with a funky bassline before introducing jangly riffs and hip-swiveling percussive layers. But it’s the earnest vocal interpretations of Mann that resonate strongest as he adapts the original’s consequential lyrical content through the lens of his Left Coast upbringing.
