It’s the end of December so you know what time it is; the annual guessing game of which coworker will be the sloppiest drunk at your office holiday party. Oh, and Digital High’s Top 20 Tunes of 2018. So without further ado I present to you this year’s mix of eclectic achievement.
20. “Finesse (Remix)” – Bruno Mars ft. Cardi B
After the original landed on DH’s 2016 end of year list, it’s only fitting that its remix featuring one of the year’s hottest rappers finds itself on the 2018 version. Retaining all the bouncy charm of its predecessor, Cardi’s added bravado ups the ante on the fresh spin, taking it to new heights without missing a beat.
19. “Cool” – Felix Jaehn ft. Marc E. Bassy & Gucci Mane
Dubbed a year end favorite back in February, this trop-pop tune lived up to its namesake and weathered many a sonic storm to remain a 2018 mainstay. But that should come as no surprise given the amount of talent aligned by the three hitmakers responsible for this collaboration.
18. “I Found You” – benny blanco & Calvin Harris
Popping up for his first appearance on the countdown, DH fave Calvin Harris and one to watch for benny blanco are responsible for one of the year’s more underrated dance tunes. ‘I Found You’ is a subtle house groover with a rhythm and vocal combo that both teases and pleases.
17. “Welcome To The Family” – Watsky
The past year was an important one for new discoveries, like San Francisco lyricist Watsky and his endearing ode ‘Welcome to the Family.’ The piano-led piece is an unorthodox hip-hop bop and perfect introduction to the young talent. Here’s to hoping there’s much more of Watsky to be heard in 2019.
16. “Put You On” – Amber Mark ft. DRAM
Boasting a mix of contemporary pop flash and old-school R&B tones, this Amber Mark and DRAM collaborative effort did not disappoint. Relive the late summer vibes as the new jack bounce and funky bassline come correct one more time.
